Nagpur, May 1 -- In a significant development in the Nagpur riots case, police have arrested key accused Fahim Khan in connection with the killing of Irfan Ansari during the unrest that shook the city in March last year, an official said on Thursday.

The violence broke out on March 17, 2025, following rumours that a 'chadar' bearing religious inscriptions had been set on fire amid protests organised by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), which was demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

Clashes, including incidents of stone-pelting and arson, were reported from multiple areas, leaving as many as 33 police personnel injured, among them three deputy commissioners of police.
