Bengaluru, Aug. 30 -- The resignation of B Nagendra from the Karnataka Cabinet has reopened the political arithmetic for filling two vacant ministerial berths, with the ruling Congress weighing caste, regional and gender equations amid renewed Opposition pressure over the Valmiki corporation issue.
Nagendra resigned from the Council of Ministers amid the controversy surrounding the alleged illegal transfer of funds from the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation. His exit has created a fresh vacancy for Scheduled Tribe representation and eased one of the hurdles before Chief Minister DK Shivakumar as the Congress works on a Cabinet reshuffle.
