Jaipur, Jan. 8 -- Nagauri Ashwagandha - a Marwari variety of the multipurpose herb Indian Ginseng or Withania somnifera has been given GI tag, official sources said here on Thursday.

Geographical Indication (GI) tag is a status assigned to a product that originates from a specific geographical location. The product must possess the reputation and qualities of the place of origin.

The GI tag , an international recognition, is granted in India by the Ministry of Industries and Commerce governed entity-GI Registry, Chennai.

The GI tag assures consumers that the product has a distinguishing quality and can be trusted. Thus, it helps the producers boost the marketing of their product.
