Mumbai, May 7 -- Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde has clarified that the municipal corporation has not imposed any restrictions on fish cutting in city markets and assured full support to the Koli community.
She stated that both she and the civic administration stand firmly with the fisherfolk and announced plans to build a separate fish market for them.
The clarification came after reports emerged from the Vakola fish market claiming that some civic officials had instructed vendors to sell only whole fish due to foul smell and public health concerns. Following the reports, both Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and the Shiv Sena (UBT) criticized the municipal corporation and the state government.
