Mumbai, July 29 -- Mumbai has only 1.28 square metres of existing public open space available per person, far below the national planning benchmark of 10-12 square metres per capita, according to a new report released by the Urban Design Research Institute (UDRI) and NGO Alliance for Governance and Renewal (NAGAR) at the press club of Mumbai here on Wednesday .
Titled "Public Open Space Mapping and Management Strategy for Mumbai", the report highlights that the city's challenge is not only the shortage of land but also gaps in planning, management, coordination and maintenance of existing open spaces.
