Mumbai, June 25 -- The sessions court here has acquitted two women accused of murdering their 15-year-old adopted niece in 2017, on the ground that the prosecution failed to establish the charge, while observing that the possibility of suicide could not be ruled out.
The two accused, identified as Soliya Salim Sayyad, 42, and Sabira Bano Yusuf Sayyad, 48, had remained in prison for nearly seven years after being arrested in connection with the teenager's death.
According to the prosecution, the two women were booked by Antop Hill Police for allegedly strangling their adopted niece to death on May 4, 2017, after subjecting her to prolonged physical and mental harassment.
