Mumbai, Nov. 19 -- A special NDPS court awarded 15years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs one lakh to a Mumbai-based chemist for peddling banned codeine cough syrup.
Accused Shakir Retiwala was running a chemist shop in Kurla area of city subarub. He was arrested in February 2020 by the Ghatkopar unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, found carrying 400 bottles of cough syrup, with an additional 6,640 bottles seized from his residence.
According to the prosecution, the accused was peddling banned codeine cough syrup and was also selling sleeping pills to youngsters without doctor's prescription.
The court examined several witnesses besides a chemical analysis report.
