Mumbai, Nov. 3 -- The night sky illuminated with fireworks displays as residents poured onto the streets, creating impromptu processions and dancing to traditional drums and contemporary music on Sunday after Indian women cricketers made history by winning the World Cup on Sunday night.

The atmosphere resembled Diwali as firecrackers lit up residential areas and strangers embraced in moments of shared national pride.

The DY Patil Stadium witnessed a packed audience including cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and former men's captain Rohit Sharma with his wife Ritika Sajdeh, along with ICC Chairman Jay Shah.
