Mangaluru, Sept. 30 -- The absence of immediate clarity over the source of a blast-like sound at the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) premises near Jokatte left residents on alert on Wednesday, after dense smoke was seen rising from the facility.
Residents in areas surrounding the refinery reported hearing a loud sound, which they described as resembling an explosion, followed by the emergence of thick smoke from the MRPL premises.
The sound and smoke were visible and audible from a considerable distance, prompting concern among people living in the vicinity of the major industrial complex.
