Bhopal, April 3 -- The Madhya Pradesh State Assembly Secretariat on Friday issued an order terminating the membership of opposition Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti from the Datia Assembly constituency following his conviction in a bank fraud case.

Bharti was on April 1 convicted by an MP/MLA court of New Delhi in a 27-year-old case of bank fraud, and sentenced on April 2 to three years imprisonment and Rs one lakh fine.

Following the court's decision, MP Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar directed the Assembly officials to issue the order terminating Bharti's membership.
