Pune, July 10 -- The Professional Structural Engineers Association (PSEA) today said that the recent building collapse at Moshi, according to its preliminary assessment, was likely caused by lateral pressure exerted by water-saturated solid waste rather than by any inherent structural failure of the building.

PSEA President Sheshrao Kadam, along with members of the association's technical committee, visited the accident site and conducted a preliminary visual inspection following the tragic incident.

According to the association, continuous rainfall had saturated a large mound of solid waste stored approximately 30 metres from the affected building, as well as the underlying soil. This significantly reduced the sheer strength of the soil ...
