Aizawl, June 2 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Myanmar's military ruler and President Min Aung Hlaing to expedite the completion of the long-delayed Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP), a strategically important connectivity initiative designed to link India's eastern seaboard with Mizoram through Myanmar.
The issue figured prominently during discussions between the two leaders during Min Aung Hlaing's ongoing visit to India from May 30 to June 3, according to a joint statement released on Tuesday.
The project, regarded as a key pillar of India's Act East Policy, has suffered repeated setbacks over the past decade owing to political instability, armed conflict and logistical challenges inside Myanmar.
