New Delhi, June 9 -- In a landmark move aimed at bolstering energy security and advancing India's clean energy ambitions, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the establishment of a 250 MW Solar Power Project with an integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on approximately 850 acres of vacant defence land at Sitapur (Ex-Cantonment) in Uttar Pradesh.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) described the initiative as the first large-scale renewable energy project of its kind to be developed on defence land, marking a significant milestone in the optimum utilisation of surplus defence assets while supporting the country's transition towards sustainable energy.
