Aizawl, April 10 -- The Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) today staged a protest in Aizawl, accusing the State's Education Minister Dr Vanlalthlana of alleged favouritism in the award of contracts under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, and symbolically burnt copies of work orders to press their demands.
In a statement issued after the protest, the MPYCC alleged that several works under the Education Department were awarded without following due tendering procedures. The organisation claimed that contracts were neither floated through open tenders nor even through restricted tenders, but were instead given to individuals and firms allegedly close to the ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and those favoured by the Minister.
