Aizawl, Sept. 8 -- Having achieved a literacy rate of 99.8 per cent, Mizoram is now shifting its focus to reaching the small number of adults who remain outside the literacy net, officials said as the state observed International Literacy Day on Tuesday.
The state was declared India's first fully literate state on May 20 last year, but the government is continuing its literacy campaign with the aim of bringing the remaining non-literate adults into education programmes before the 2027 national census.
