Aizawl, Sept. 8 -- Mizoram School Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana today addressed the International Literacy Day 2025 programme held at Janpath Road, New Delhi, where he highlighted how Mizoram became the first State in India to achieve 100 per cent literacy.

The Minister traced the history of literacy in Mizoram, noting that the foundation for reading and writing was laid during the British colonial period by Christian missionaries, who introduced the Mizo alphabet and encouraged learning.

He said this early start enabled the people of Mizoram to quickly embrace literacy and pass it on to others.
