Mizoram sheltering over 38,000 displaced people from Myanmar, Bangladesh and Manipur

Aizawl, Aug. 27 -- More than 38,000 people displaced by conflict and unrest in neighbouring regions are currently living in Mizoram, according to figures placed before the state Assembly.

Home Minister K. Sapdanga, replying in writing to a question from Leader of Opposition Lalchhandama Ralte, said the state was sheltering 38,213 refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) as of August 20.

The figure comprises 29,575 refugees from Myanmar, 1,679 from Bangladesh and 6,959 people displaced from Manipur.
