Aizawl, June 3 -- Departing from the convention of nominating seasoned politicians to the Rajya Sabha, Mizoram's ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has chosen party spokesperson K. Laltluangkima as its candidate for the state's lone seat in the Upper House of Parliament.

The announcement was made on Wednesday after the ZPM's nomination committee met at Chief Minister Lalduhoma's official residence and unanimously selected the 63-year-old party leader for the June 18 election.

Unlike many Rajya Sabha nominees who are veteran legislators or former ministers, Laltluangkima has largely remained behind the scenes in party affairs.
