Aizawl, June 17 -- Mizoram's lone Rajya Sabha election is set for a direct contest betweenthe ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) on Thursday, with both the BJP and the Congress deciding to abstain from voting.

The decisions by the BJP, which has two MLAs in the 40-member Mizoram Legislative Assembly, and the Congress, which has a lone legislator, have effectively narrowed the contest to the ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and the opposition MNF.

State BJP leaders said party MLAs K. Beichhua, who is also the Mizoram BJP president, and K. Hrahmo would stay away from the polling in accordance with directions issued by the party's national leadership.
