Aizawl, Aug. 31 -- Mizoram continues to battle a serious HIV crisis, with state health officials reporting that 259 people living with the virus have died between January and July this year, while another 611 new infections were detected during the same period.
Figures compiled by Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) centres reveal that 2,996 people have succumbed to HIV since 2020.
The year 2023 recorded the highest toll at 632 deaths, followed by 562 in 2022.
As of July-end, Mizoram has 19,837 people living with HIV. Of these, 18,694 are currently undergoing treatment at ART centres, while 1,143 are outside the treatment network.
