Aizawl, Oct. 16 -- Mizoram has recorded 2,051 drug-related deaths between 1984 and October 7, 2026, while the state had 12,839 injecting drug users as of December 31, 2025, according to figures presented by the Excise and Narcotics Department.
The figures were shared by department Joint Commissioner Peter Zohmingthanga during a drug abuse prevention campaign at Govt. Champhai College on Friday.
Of the recorded deaths, 1,799 were males and 252 were females.
The presentation also highlighted the early onset of substance use among children.
Citing the Survey Report on Drugs and Children in Mizoram 2022, Zohmingthanga said children aged 10 to 14, including middle school students, had already begun using cannabis.
