Aizawl, Aug. 19 -- Mizoram is taking its first steps towards building a regulated local fruit beer and winery industry, with the state government clearing 11 applicants after scrutinising 99 proposals under its amended prohibition law.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Selection Committee chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday. Excise & Narcotics Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar also attended the meeting.
The initiative, introduced under the Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2025, is aimed in part at creating better markets for locally grown fruits and agricultural produce and helping farmers secure higher returns.
