Aizawl, June 23 -- The Mizoram government on Tuesday began the distribution of free rice to refugees from Myanmar by flagging off trucks carrying 4,229 quintals of rice for relief camps and settlements in Champhai district, which hosts the largest concentration of displaced people along the India-Myanmar border.

Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs B. Lalchhanzova flagged off the convoy from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) warehouse at New Champhai. Speaking on the occasion, he thanked the people of Champhai and other districts of Mizoram for extending humanitarian assistance to refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh, as well as internally displaced persons from Manipur who have taken shelter in the state.
