Agartala, Feb. 12 -- In support of the nationwide general strike initiated by trade unions, the Left Front parties staged a protest rally in Agartala on Thrusday. The strike evoked a mixed response in the state. There was no disruption in vehicular movement, including train service. Markets and shopping complexes remained open and functioned as usual across the state.
Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury, CITU state president Manik De, along with numerous other Left Front leaders and supporters criticised the central government.
Speaking to reporters after the rally, Sarkar pointed out that the policies adopted by the BJP government have added burden on citizens and working-class individuals.
