Mumbai, May 1 -- New Zealand white-ball captain Mitchell Santner faces a significant setback after being ruled out for at least a month with a grade three shoulder injury, New Zealand Cricket confirmed on Friday, raising doubts over his immediate Test availability.

Santner, 34, returned home earlier this week from IPL 2026 duties with Mumbai Indians after scans revealed a serious left-shoulder injury sustained while fielding against Chennai Super Kings on April 23.

NZC said the all-rounder consulted a specialist on Friday morning, who prescribed a minimum four-week rest and rehabilitation programme, effectively ruling him out of key international fixtures in the near term.
