Nottingham, June 29 -- Daryl Mitchell produced a magnificent unbeaten century to drag New Zealand into the contest, but England remained overwhelming favourites to complete a series sweep after ending the fourth day of the third and final Test at Trent Bridge on 103 for four in their second innings.

After electing to bat, New Zealand posted 438 in their first innings. England replied with 354, conceding an 84-run first-innings lead before fighting back strongly with the ball to set up a potentially decisive final day.

Resuming their second innings at 120 for three, New Zealand found unlikely resistance through Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra, whose composed 129-run fourth-wicket stand frustrated England for much of the morning session.
