Shillong, April 28 -- A distress call to Meghalaya 'CM Connect' helpline 1971 led to the rescue of a minor from the State who had become trapped in slave-like conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday.

On April 24, a caller to the 1971 helpline reported that a minor from Meghalaya had been stranded in Kashmir and forced to work at a restaurant under abusive and exploitative conditions.

The minor was allegedly overworked, denied wages, and subjected to harassment, with officials noting alarming signs of emotional distress, including thoughts of self-harm.
