Rajanna Sircilla, July 30 -- Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Irrigation Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Adluri Laxman Kumar on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the modernisation of the Vemulawada bus station at an estimated cost of Rs 1.6 crore.

The ministers also flagged off a new express bus service connecting Vemulawada and Basara via Korutla.

Speaking on the occasion, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Congress government had introduced free bus travel for women under the Mahalakshmi scheme within 48 hours of assuming office, leading to a significant rise in RTC ridership. To meet the increased demand, the government procured additional buses and made fresh recruitments, he said.
