Shillong, Jan. 20 -- Eighteen Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in Meghalaya on Tuesday after they illegally entered India crossing the international border illegally, police said, adding two Indian touts and five drivers, who assisted the Bangladeshi intruders, were also nabbed.

West Jaintia Hills district police chief Jagpal Singh Dhanka said the intruders were arrested after a hot pursuit near Amlarem Civil-Sub Division.

A vehicle driven by one Vishal Dkhar of Dawki village evaded the police check gates. Dkhar was ferrying four Bangladeshi nationals.

During the operation, two alleged Indian touts -- Meban Dkhar and his associate Melari Rasmut -- were also detained from Lad Demthring along with their vehicle.
