Shillong, Aug. 30 -- Power-deficit Meghalaya is negotiating with multiple agencies to establish Pump Storage Power Plants (PSPs), while simultaneously stepping up efforts to harness renewable energy sources, including solar and hydro projects to strengthen the state's power generation, said.

Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Sanjay Goyal said the government has taken a call to ensure PSPs benefit both the developers and the state.

PSPs operate by using surplus electricity to pump water to an upper reservoir during off-peak periods and releasing it to generate power during peak demand, thereby offering much-needed flexibility to the grid.
