Shillong, Aug. 30 -- Power-deficit Meghalaya is negotiating with various agencies to establish Pump Storage Power Plants (PSPs), even as it steps up efforts to explore options for renewable energy, including solar power and hydro projects, to improve power generation within the state.
Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Sanjay Goyal, said the government has taken a call that PSPs should benefit both the developers and the state.
PSPs operate by using surplus electricity to pump water to an upper reservoir during off-peak periods and releasing it to generate power during peak demand, thereby providing much-needed flexibility to the grid.
