Shillong, Aug. 15 -- Chief Minister Conrad Sangma unfurled the national flag to celebrate India's 80th Independence Day today and said Meghalaya had moved beyond its earlier image as a remote Northeastern state.
Thousands of people gathered at the Polo ground witnessed the ceremonial parade. An Indian Air Force helicopter hovered over the sprawling parade ground showering rose petals.
