Shillong, April 4 -- Meghalaya is geared up for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with all preparatory arrangements in place, an election official said on Saturday.
"We are waiting only for the schedule from the Election Commission of India. Once a formal notification is issued, we will start the SIR exercise across the 60 assembly constituencies in the state," Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer Dr Brahma Deo Ram Tiwari told UNI.
He said the primary aim of SIR is to improve electoral roll accuracy through household verification and to weed out illegal foreign migrants by checking their place of birth.
