Shillong, Jan. 12 -- Expressing concern over the prolonged crisis at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Monday wondered who is running the central university.
NEHU Vice-Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla has been absent from the Shillong campus for 422 days, due to protests against alleged financial and administrative mismanagement.
Various stakeholders of NEHU, which include faculty members, students, and non-teaching members, have since 2024 been asking the central government to remove Shukla.
The stakeholders said that Shukla's prolonged absence has caused a breakdown in NEHU's administrative functioning and institutional stability.
