Shillong, July 19 -- The Meghalaya government declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the state on Monday to allow students to watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 final between defending champions Argentina and Spain.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced the decision in a video message posted on social media on Sunday, describing football as "a passion and a way of life" in Meghalaya.
"I would like to inform all of you that I have decided that tomorrow, Monday, will be a holiday for all educational institutions, including schools and colleges to allow our youngsters to truly enjoy it," Sangma announced.
