Shillong, Feb. 7 -- Two more bodies were retrieved from the illegal rat-hole coal mine in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district today, mounting the death toll in the dynamite explosion to 27, with nine others injured, officials said.

Three more persons involved in illegal coal mining activities were arrested today, taking the number of arrested persons to five. Police have seized 63 detonators from their possessions in Umpleng cement bazar.

Rescue teams of the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force and Special Rescue Team are making all efforts to rescue the miners from the 100-foot rat-hole coal mine as family members of miners claimed that their loved ones are trapped inside the mine.
