Shillong, Dec. 12 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday reviewed the state's first government-run Shillong Medical College and interacted with its inaugural batch of students, marking a key milestone in the institution's launch.
The SMC began its first academic session on October 10,2025 at the old Pasteur Institute, Lawmali, Shillong, following the National Medical Commission's (NMC) approval and issuance of a Letter of Permission (LOP). The medical college will operate as a "brown-field project," utilising Shillong Civil Hospital and Ganesh Das Hospital as its teaching hospitals.
