Shillong, Feb. 9 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday announced constitution of a judicial inquiry commission to probe the February 5 illegal coal mining tragedy in the Mynsngat-Thangsko area of East Jaintia Hills district.

The death toll in the illegal coal mine dynamite blast in East Jaintia Hills district rose to 27 on Saturday after two more bodies were recovered from the site.

Search and rescue operations resumed on Monday morning with teams of the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force and Special Rescue Team are making all efforts to rescue miners who are presumably still trapped inside the 100-foot rat-hole coal mine.
