Shillong, April 16 -- Hailing the BJP-led NDA government for tabling the Women's Reservation Bill in parliament, the Meghalaya unit of BJP on Thursday lampooned the previous non-BJP governments, saying that they had misused the issue of women's empowerment merely as an election slogan.

"The Women Reservation Bill has been gathering dust for a long time. Successive governments in the past have only spoken about it during election campaigns, and once the election was over, it became a closed chapter," Meghalaya BJP Chief Spokesperson, Mariahom Kharkrang told reporters.
