Tura, March 17 -- Meghalaya police seized sharp and blunt weapons from vehicles and detained several persons in this connection during intensified surveillance at a check point in the Aramile locality in Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills, on Monday night.
"During thorough checking and search of these vehicles, the police team recovered various lethal weapons including machetes, hammers, catapults, and other items which were suspected to be intended for use during the ongoing communal conflicts in the district," Abraham Sangma, the district police chief of West Garo Hills, said.
Police have confiscated all the sharp and blunt weapons and detained all individuals found in the vehicles.
