Shillong, June 8 -- National People's Party (NPP) and former minister James Sangma, who filed his nomination today for the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Meghalaya, is set to win unopposed with no other candidate filing paper till 3 pm in afternoon, when the nomination process ended.
The election - scheduled for June 18 -has been necessitated as the tenure of the sitting Rajya Sabha member Dr. Wanweiroy Kharlukhi of the NPP is set to expire on June 21.
Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Malthus S. Sangma, who is the Returning Officer for this election, received no other nomination paper till the closing of the process, clearing the way for James to enter the Upper House of Parliament.
