Shillong, June 12 -- union Minister of State Shantanu Thakur on Friday voiced strong concern over reported atrocities against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, stating that India will formally raise its concerns with Dhaka to ensure the safety and rights of Hindus residing in the neighbouring country.
"It is unfortunate that atrocities against Hindus are happening in Bangladesh. Hindus are facing a difficult situation. We are going to request the Bangladesh government to stop this," he told reporters here in Meghalaya.
Thakur, a BJP MP from Bongaon constituency in West Bengal, is also a scion of the Matua community, which comprises Scheduled Caste people tracing their roots in Bangladesh.
