Shillong, April 20 -- With a surge in measles cases reported across the border in Bangladesh, health authorities in Meghalaya have intensified surveillance and preparedness measures to prevent any possible spillover into the state.

Bangladesh is facing a severe measles surge, with over 20,000 suspected cases and more than 200 deaths, primarily affecting children under five.

Health authorities in areas along the India-Bangladesh border areas have held orientation-cum-preparedness meeting together with multiple stakeholders to strengthen early detection and response systems, officials said.
