Meerut, Oct. 25 -- A 35-year-old commercial complex in Meerut is being demolished as part of an administrative action carried out under a Supreme Court order. The complex, which housed 22 shops, is located in Kazi Pur and was built illegally on a plot originally allotted for residential purposes.
Before the demolition began this morning, shopowners were seen sitting in front of their establishments, weeping and pleading for relief. Many expressed despair over losing their livelihoods, asking, "What will happen to us now? Where will we go?"Around 11:30 am, the district administration team arrived at the site to begin the demolition. The development drew a large crowd, prompting police to set up barricades around the area.
