New Delhi, April 10 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has set a target to remove 1.41 lakh metric tonnes of silt from city drains by June 30 as part of its annual pre-monsoon desilting drive, officials said on Friday.
The civic body has earmarked about Rs 36 crore for the exercise this year, which covers nearly 545 km of drains wider than four feet across the national capital.
Officials said that around 16 per cent of the desilting work has been completed so far, with most of the project tenders already awarded.
MCD's Environment Management Services Committee chairman Sandeep Kapoor stated that silt removal across the city is being monitored daily, and efforts are underway to speed up the process.
