Siliguri, March 14 -- With an eye on the forthcoming Assembly elections, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb on Saturday announced that development projects worth nearly Rs 15,000 crore have been planned to transform the North Bengal town into a major industrial corridor.
Speaking to reporters, Deb said that the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) has already submitted a proposal to the state government, adding that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has shown keen interest in its implementation.
"The Chief Minister is always ready to extend support for the development and overall well-beingof the people of Siliguri," Deb said.
