Kanpur, Aug. 31 -- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday strongly objected to a reported government proposal to construct a religious site of another faith within the premises of Buddha Park in Kanpur Nagar.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, she urged the government to immediately withdraw the plan, warning that such a move could lead to social unrest and communal tension.

Highlighting the constitutional principle of secularism, Mayawati said India is a diverse country where people of different religions and castes coexist, and each faith has its own places of worship. She emphasized that Buddha Park holds deep spiritual and emotional significance for followers of Buddhism and Ambedkarite ideology.
