New Delhi, March 29 -- Former India boxing great MC Mary Kom has called for promoting sports among India's tribal communities, highlighting their physical prowess and mental fortitude.
The six-time gold medalist of the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships spoke to UNI on the sidelines of the 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' at the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Swimming Complex on Sunday morning.
"I, myself, am a tribal from the Kom community. Tribals reside in areas that have harsh conditions, they have immense physical and mental fortitude, and they have to do excessive hard work in their day-to-day lives. Tribal people are strong, and I feel that with the right amount of support and awareness, they are sure to excel in sports", she said.
