Imphal, Oct. 27 -- Manipur has witnessed a sharp rise in dengue infections this year, with health officials sounding the alarm and deploying intensified preventive actions.

According to health officials, this year about 3500 cases are expected, however, the data is based on the tests conducted and there may be large numbers of unreported cases.

Imphal West alone accounts for around 2,500 cases, and one dengue-related death reported in Bishnupur district. The last two years witnessed around 2500 cases.
