Imphal, Sept. 5 -- The truce with Kuki-Zo militant groups signed in New Delhi yesterday has raised concerns in Manipur, where the main public demand remains the reopening of National Highway-2.
Of the state's two lifeline highways, NH-2, which connects Imphal to Mao, remains blocked by Kuki militants in Kangpokpi district.
Militants continue to restrict movement on the route, reportedly checking vehicles, documents, and passengers to identify people from a particular community. As many as 31 people are still reported missing along this highway.
While the Centre's announcement of an agreement with Kuki-Zo militants, including monthly stipends for cadres after antecedent verification, was welcomed by some, doubts remain about its effective...
